My mother-in-law, Ruth passed away on a Friday in October of 2018. She was a precious soul--kind-spirited, loving and warm-hearted. She loved music, played guitar, harmonica and had a beautiful voice. In the weeks leading up to her final breath, I was reminded that she always said she wanted me to play this song at her funeral. So rather than create a piano-only arrangement, I decided to make it more reflective of the things she loved about my music and her precious daughter that became my wonderful wife. About a decade ago, her and her daughter (my wife Carrene) recorded an album together. One of her favorite songs was 'In the Garden". This song incorporates that old recording of the two of them playing and singing this song, into the new orchestral arrangement.
It was a joy to create arrangement in honor her life and the impact she had on my own. Ruth was always so encouraging about my music. She was never pushy, and always positive. She left her mark on me and many others. Also playing acoustic guitar on a portion this song is Adrian Scafidel.
